The Diver

This piece was a commission from the Des Moines Art Center in 2003 to be on display at the cities Art's Festival that year.  It was in a parade on the main Saturday of the festival.  It was suggested to me that I make something that fits in a sort of circus theme that would be fun for the kids to participate with.  I think I skipped that whole thought and went right on to make this major piece.

Perhaps the only reference you might find to the circus is that of the circus diver, which was the original idea. Also, part of my original idea (which you can see in the original sketch) was to place the Diver atop a 20' or 30' telephone pole for a permanent location. That has yet to be realized as the Diver now collects dust in my storage space. However, this was a major breakthrough piece for me to construct and concieve and I will continue to do more work of this sort. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this piece.

Nothing like getting started on a massive chunk of wood.
