Coal Mine Work
 
This work is the product of a few hours spent at a historic coal mine near Jefferson, IA (for those interested I'm sure the piece still stands).  All the objects used in this arrangement were found at this site.  The brick was once used in a building for the original mine, no doubt.  I'm not sure exactly how the pitchfork and the folding seat got there but these items had to be used once found.
Lot's of interesting things can become of what was left for decay.
 
The stick man turned out quite nice for nothing more than a friction fit in his seat.  He is so comfortable and relaxed you might think he was just out getting a tan after all those dreary cold months he's endured.  The whole scene reminds me of a typical American living room setting with the brick structure representing a t.v.  I wonder how long he'll stay relaxed like that in his lazy boy?  Or how long till the vandals get to him?
 
When I was in grade school I can remember taking a field trip to a few historic sites in Jefferson and this was one of them. Now I can imagine a new group of students stumbling upon this scene totally unexpectedly.  That would be the best.
